RJF ~ Author Interview ~ Rebekah A. Morris

Please welcome Rebekah A. Morris to the blog!! :)
~

For starters, how long have you been writing and when did you published your first book?

It's been about fifteen years since I started to write and actually enjoy it. Before then I just pretended stories and created them in my head because I hated to write. My first book, "Home Fires of the Great War" was published in the spring of 2011 and then republished with a new cover and slightly different format the following spring.

Is there a certain book of yours--published or not yet out for the public--that holds a special place in your heart?

Oh, that's a tough question. My first book is very special to me because I got to know my characters so well that they felt like my friends. I cried when I was finished writing the book because I was saying good bye to very dear friends.

The other one I think that is special to me, is "Through the Tunnel" because I've always had a heart for children in need and I think that story was sort of an outward expression of that longing to help them. It also gave me a different perspective about my life as I saw things through the eyes of a foster child.

It would probably be safe to say that each of my books holds a special place in my heart. But I'll just stick with those two for now. :)

Are there any authors that when you read their books it makes you want to write like them?

Yep. My favorite author, Isabella Alden "Pansy" has such a way with words. Her ability to share truths of Scripture without making it sound as though she was preaching, has helped me many time in my writing. (I also find myself thinking of how she would write a scene when I'm reading other books.)

Where is the place where you get your biggest inspiration for writing? In a field, bedroom, Pinterest, etc.?

Ummm. Everywhere? I've found inspiration from calendar pictures, from images on Pinterest, from other books, adds, newspapers, stories people shared about themselves or a friend, dreams. It's hard to say because I find inspiration so many places. (Maybe that's why I write about so many different things and places.) Over all, I've probably gotten the most inspiration from calendar pictures because I've used them to write many of my short stories. Or, at least I used to. :)

Tell us a little bit about how you write. No words added all week, then suddenly you add several thousand, constantly writing and can’t stop, etc. How is it for you?

I try to write each day, or evening rather as that's when I write best, but some times that doesn't work. My goal is a thousand words a day, but that doesn't always happen. Sometimes I'll write 2,000 words and other times I'm doing good if I can get 500 words written. Some people write in the evening and just keep writing until they run out of words, but I like my routine, so I write until around 9-9:30. Then, even if I'm in the middle of an exciting part, I'll go to bed. I've found that for me, I'm more eager and ready to write the next day if I get enough sleep.

Are you a morning person or a night owl? And does that affect what time of day you write?

Books by Rebekah A. Morris I am more of a morning person. I'm usually up by 6 each morning, but I don't write until evening. It's rather strange, but my creativity seems to flow better in the evening when I'm getting tired. I can write in the morning, but I always have other things I need to do and that I do best when I'm fresh, that writing gets set aside until the evening or late afternoon. I have wondered what would happen to my writing count if I tried to write all day, but I don't have enough time to spare from other projects to try it. At least not now. :)

Thank you for having me, Deborah!
